Infertility rates
continue to increase

  • 84% more women are living with infertility today than in 19902
  • 50% of men’s average sperm counts have declined since the 1970s, accelerating after 20003
  • Miscarriage rates rose from about 13% of pregnancies in younger women in the 1970s to ~15% in the 1990s–2000s4
  • 38% more children in the U.S. are now diagnosed with developmental disabilities than two decades ago5
  • About 99% of umbilical cord blood samples contain plastic‑related chemicals, and microplastics have been found in 100% of placenta samples in recent studies6, 7.

A Plastic Detox Intervention for
Improved Fertility Outcomes

Dr. Shanna Swan and Action Science Initiative, powered by the Million Marker Research Institute, helped couples uncover how everyday chemical exposures may be impacting their fertility. Using Million Marker’s Exposure Tests, participants measured levels of bisphenols, phthalates, and other hormone-disrupting chemicals, then received clear, personalized guidance to reduce those exposures through simple lifestyle changes.

Follow-up testing showed real progress: Bisphenol and phthalate levels dropped significantly, and men saw possible improvements in sperm count.

While small, the pilot demonstrates that when people understand and act on their exposures, meaningful health changes can follow.
